The Knights of the Altar is a Catholic organization dating back to the Middle Ages. The organization’s main duty is to serve the priest’s at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the unbloody renewal of Jesus’ sacrifice at Calvary. In this sense, a knight’s goals is to preserve the true teachings of the Church and maintain Catholic tradition.

Knights of the Altar was a term referring to servers who assisted the priests at Mass. However, it wasn’t until the 19th century that lay men where permitted to serve Mass. Until this time, this privilege was reserved for seminarians who had reached the rank of acolyte and monks. The ultimate purpose of the Knights is to give men the ability to have a better connection to the Mass and really appreciate its significance. This wonderful grace and privilege should not be taken for granted.
